How the odds are calculated

For each school we fit a model to applicants who reported their LSAT, GPA and final decision over the 2022-2023 to 2024-2025 admissions cycles, weighting the most recent cycle's standards. It estimates the chance of an offer, and among applicants not admitted, the chance of a waitlist.

Schools with too few reported decisions use an estimate from their ABA medians and acceptance rate instead, marked in the table.

How we tested it

We held out every decision from the 2025-2026 cycle and compared the model's predictions with what happened. Applicants it gave a 70-80% chance were admitted 81% of the time. Overall it separated admits from rejections with an AUC of 0.883 (1.0 is perfect, 0.5 is a coin flip).

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is this law school admissions calculator?

For 168 schools, odds come from a model fit to 162,511 real applicant decisions from the 2022-2023 to 2024-2025 cycles. Tested on the next cycle's decisions it ranked admits above rejections with an AUC of 0.883, and its percentages matched real admit rates within a few points in every range. It cannot see your essays, résumé or letters, so treat it as a starting point.

What do Likely, Target, Reach and Long shot mean?

Likely is a 75% or better chance of admission, Target is 45-75%, Reach is 15-45%, and Long shot is under 15%. A balanced list usually has a few schools in each.

Does applying early help?

Usually, yes. Most schools admit on a rolling basis, so applying in September through November tends to beat applying in late winter with the same numbers. These odds reflect the typical applicant, who applies in the fall.

Why does URM status change my odds?

The model is trained on applicants' self-reported data, which shows different admit rates for underrepresented minority applicants with the same numbers at many schools. The toggle lets you see the difference the data shows.

Why do my odds drop with a higher LSAT at some schools?

At a few schools, real applicant data shows fewer admits among very high scorers than among applicants near the school’s 75th percentile. These applicants are often waitlisted or rejected because the school expects them to enroll elsewhere, a pattern called yield protection. The model learns this from each school’s own decisions. Showing strong interest, applying early decision or writing a why-this-school essay can help.

Is LSAT or GPA more important?

At most schools a point of LSAT moves your odds more than a tenth of a point of GPA, and the model learns each school's own balance. Splitters (high LSAT, lower GPA) do relatively well at schools that weigh the LSAT more.
